The Seeds of Hamsab: A Story by Founder Bharti Bhatnagar

I'm often asked about how it all began. “Jamuns!” I say without missing a beat. Yes, being a lecturer had its perks, but I always felt something was amiss. Even today, I remember the wise words of my uncle - "Don't do anything that others can do better than you. Do something at which you can excel."

The seeds of Hamsab were sown in the year 2014 but I didn't know how and where to begin. One ordinary July day, my mother-in-law showed me a box of jamuns. Ecstatic, I asked,"Where did you get these?" She replied, "Small children came selling jamuns picked fresh from the trees." Soon after, bags filled with jamuns became a regular at my house since the children knew I would buy them eagerly.

Witnessing countless children wandering the streets instead of attending schools ignited a profound realisation within me. Moved by their untapped potential and eager dreams, I felt compelled to take action. I invited them to assemble in a nearby park, where their presence, brimming with anticipation, affirmed my purpose. In that moment of connection and shared enthusiasm, the vision for Hamsab was born - a sanctuary where stories, games, art and academics converge to empower young hearts and minds.
