Our Past
The seeds of Hamsab started with Jamuns ( Syzygium cumini ) literally. The story as told by founder Bharti Bhatnagar...
People often ask me how it all began. I say but one word “Jamuns”. Being a lecturer had its perks but something was missing! This is when my uncle told me “Don’t do anything that others can do better than you. Do that, at which you can excel”!
Thus , the seed of Hamsab was sown in the year 2014 but I didn’t know how and where to begin.
It was a regular day in the month of July when my mother in law showed me a box of Jamuns. Ecstatic ! "Where did you get it"? She said “Small children came selling jamuns picked up fresh from the trees”. From then onwards, Jamuns were literally raining in my house as children continued shouting everyday “Aunty! Jamuns” because they knew I would rush to buy it no matter how much of them I had it already.
Seeing so many children roaming around the streets and not going to school gave me the idea of getting them to assemble in a park near my house. Bless those children who started coming with dreams and excitement up their sleeves . This spawned the belief that this is where I belong and Hamsab - a workshop of stories, games, art and academics was born.
The team
Bharti Bhatnagar - A post graduate in Business finance and Human Resource. Worked as a Lecturer in Indraprastha University. The constant urge to do something meaningful for the underprivileged and deprived paved the way for Hamsab.
Prof Suresh Pathak - Retd Associate Prof, Department of Education (CIE) - With 50 years of experience teaching B.Ed,M.Ed, M.Phil and P.hD scholars. We are really honoured to have him extend his help to further this cause of education.
R K Bhandari- After a career in education, retired as technical officer in Delhi University and supported various NGO's. Help Hamsab with his knowledge of arts.
Geeta Jha- An Insurance Professional, she instils discipline and concentration through the practice of yoga. She played an instrumental role in laying the foundation of Hamsab.
Shalini Dayal - A graduate in Industrial Relations & Personnel Management from Delhi University. She plays a major role in formulation of activities and acquaints the children with the basics.
Usha Gupta- An M.A in Psychology from Delhi University. She plays an active role in social activities of the Inner wheel club and loves involving herself in creative pursuits with the young ones.
Vandana -A B.Sc from Lucknow University. Has been a freelance teacher . Loves children and gets unparalleled joy while sharing their dreams and making them believe that they can achieve them.
Rakesh Kumar - A graduate from Delhi University. He works for the Education Department, Delhi Government and takes out time for the activities of Hamsab
Ashu Nagpaul - An M.A in Hindi, is a very committed teacher who gains peace and joy in educating young ones and works with them with utmost sincerity and patience.
Mr Ashok Kumar Munjaal - has done his B.E(Civil) and Retired as a Chief Engineer from Military Engineering Services(M.E.S.) He teaches students very patiently and wants to see them enhance their Mathematical ability and Reading skills.
Kiran - A B.Com graduate. Is quick to assess the needs of the children and gives her heart to this noble cause
Arun Mehta - is a practicing Advocate in Delhi High Court having a long practice of 36 years to his credit. He has been life member of Indian Law Institute, Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies and also Indian Bar Association. He is also active in social organization such as Rotary and had remained attached to Freemasonry.
Meghna Ahuja - An Art & Craft teacher who takes out time to spark creativity amongst the children.
Lavina Singh - A graduate from Delhi University works for the Delhi Government. She loves spending time with children.
Saurabh Narula - A graduate in Electronics & Communications Engineering and MBA from I.P University. He is working as Business head in an ecommerce startup firm.
Mr Raman - Works as a Manager in a stationary shop. Is concerned about the growing substance abuse in children and has joined hands with Hamsab to make a difference.
Anita - She understands the need for education and wants to extend a helping hand to the Hamsab children.
Rajendra Malia - A Graduate and Diploma holder in Risk Management. Is the owner of a saloon and a member of Trader’s Welfare Association. Takes keen interest in all social activities of Hamsab.
Pooja Arora - A graduate from Delhi University. Has been teaching since 25 years and shares her experience in the field of academics.
Uma - A passionate vocalist who brings out the right notes in the budding singers
Geeta Shandilya - Has completed her JBT and has always had a zest and passion for teaching and believes that Hamsab is the perfect platform which combines her passion for teaching and gives her an opportunity to contribute to the society.
Aparna Rao - Loves to be around children and has a great passion for teaching. Doing something for the underprivileged children has always been her desire and she feels that joining Hamsab has proved to be a privilege and will continue to help these children to stand on their feet and become self-sufficient.
Mrs Shweta - An Economics graduate from Delhi University and has been coaching students since the last 13 yrs. Joined Hamsab to help in the growth and development of the underprivileged.
Dimple Gupta - A Bachelor of Science (H.Sc) from Delhi University and B.Ed from Maharishi Dayanand University. Joined Hamsab to take one step forward in the upliftment of the society.
Dr Usha Vij - A Ph.D in Zoology and retired as an Assistant Professor from Delhi University. She finds immense joy in the company of students and continues to strive and work for the children to make a difference in their lives.
Richa Ahuja - Has a B Sc. degree from Delhi University and has done her Nursery Teacher’s Training (NTT) from DIET. She is also an M Sc. in applied psychology from Annamalai University and M.A Edu from IGNOU. Has worked as teacher in an MCD school. Has Joined Hamsab as a step towards the betterment of the underprivileged children of the society.
Ritu Sachdeva - A Masters degree in Sanskrit from Delhi University and a B.Ed from Annamalai University. Joined Hamsab to encourage the underprivileged young minds to help them develop the habit of learning and sharing.
Mrs Kavita Malhotra - She has done her B.A and B Ed and has more than five years of teaching experience in a public school in Delhi. She believes that she can use her past teaching experience in guiding the underprivileged children to achieve their goals and make them successful.
Mrs Shweta Goel - A professional graduate in Apparel Merchandising and Production Management. Loves to tell and enact stories along with children and does so with a lot of dedication and energy.
